Heather Dana, B.A.
Owner, Lactation Specialist
Heather has been working with parenting and breastfeeding families since 1993. Heather holds degrees in Sociology and Anthropology from Lewis and Clark College and Administration of Justice from Portland State University. After college, Heather spent four years as a residential treatment counselor, working with adjudicated teen mothers. This part of her career came to a close with the birth of her first child in 1997.
Heather found parenting to be the most feminist, empowering career choice she had ever made. Her passion for attachment parenting and breastfeeding came out of this beautiful part of her life. During her second pregnancy Heather entered a Lactation Counselor program through Breastfeeding Support Consultants, Center for Lactation Education. Two and a half years later, and just before the birth of her third child, Heather graduated and began a career as a Lactation Specialist with Beyond Birth in 2000.
Shortly after the birth of her fourth child in 2004, Heather met Zenana Rose. Zenana presented Heather with the enticing idea of a spa and wellness center with a focus on mothers and families. This collaborative venture was the perfect rounding to Heather’s goals, ideas and aspirations. Zenana Spa was born! Heather continues to work for Beyond Birth today.
Heather has also volunteered for Oregon Literacy Program, CASA, and has been active on local political campaigns. She is a member of La Leche League; Nursing Mother’s Counsel, the International Lactation Association and has been an attachment parenting group leader.
Heather lives in Southwest Portland with her husband Mike and 4 children, Kallan (6/97), Javin (5/99), Hagan (7/01), Coligny (1/04) and their 2 OHS rescue puppies, Popeye and Lorelai
