Lyla Wolfenstein, B.S., IBCLC, RLC

Owner
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
Parenting Educator

Lyla has been counseling breastfeeding families since 1998, sat for the International Board of Lactation Consultants Exam in 2002, and has been in private practice with Beyond Birth Lactation Services since then. Before becoming a lactation consultant, Lyla worked with homeless adults in an employment program, as a fund development coordinator for a non-profit agency, and as an office manager for a landscape contracting company. She also volunteered as a parent mentor for the Parenting Skills Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Through Beyond Birth, Lyla provides prenatal and post-partum lactation consultations, teaches prenatal breastfeeding classes and facilitates new mother support groups. Lyla is a member of the International Lactation Consultants Association, La Leche League International, and the Oregon Washington Lactation Association. In addition to lactation work, Lyla is passionate about supporting parents with children of any age. She believes that community, connection, and compassion are essential to parents and children alike, and, with those goals in mind, Lyla provides parenting education and parent support groups covering a range of topics and challenges that arise at different stages of parenting.

Lyla lives in NE Portland with her husband Len and their two children, Corina (dob 1995) and Oscar (dob 1998). In addition to her work with Zenana Spa and Wellness Center, Lyla achieved her second degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in June of 2008. Her other interests and passions include cooking, mixed martial arts, jewelry making, alternative education, travel, and backpacking/camping.

"From the day my daughter was born, I began dreaming about a place where families could come together, find support, information, and connection, and an opportunity to develop community and to break the isolation of new motherhood. As my children got older, my vision expanded to embrace parents with children of all ages. Although the issues faced by families change over time as children grow and change, the need for connection and support persists. Zenana Spa and Wellness Center is the realization of my dreams, and much more! I feel so fortunate to be part of this wonderful group of women working on this project! My hope and belief is that our center will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Portland families."
