HypnoBirthing is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. It's based on the belief that all babies should be born in an atmosphere of gentility and peace and that severe discomfort does not need to be an accompaniment to the birthing process. That when a mother is prepared physically, mentally and emotionally, she can experience birth in a calm, joyful and much more comfortable manner. This class teaches and utilizes relaxation and breathing techniques as well as focus on the bond between you, your birthing partner and your baby. Finally, HypnoBirthing brings a woman back to her own natural birthing instincts.
Strongly consider signing up at 24-28 weeks in your pregnancy, which allows for plenty of time for practice and contingency plans related to a missed class as each class is equally important to the program.

A birth class focused on emotional and psychological preparation for natural childbirth and parenting (along with the practical information you might need).
The class is open to the clients of a Gentle Beginning Midwifery Services or anyone else planning a natural birth, in or out of hospital.
The Inner Work of Birth is a support group that focuses on the inner preparation for natural childbirth. We spend half our time meeting with the pregnant women as a group and on alternate weeks we invite the partners to join us. The women's groups allow us to explore more intimate topics that many women are uncomfortable discussing with other women's partners. We address issues of coping with pain, dealing with fears, releasing the need to control and accessing our own empowerment. We use art, discussions, journaling, sensing exercises and ceremony to prepare ourselves for one of the most important events of our lives. During the alternate weeks we encourage partners to be involved when we cover broader topics such as recognizing the start of labor, what to expect during labor, meeting the challenges of parenthood and taking care of newborn babies. We also spend time focused on partners and address issues of supporting a laboring woman and adjusting to the change this baby will bring to their lives. However, for single Moms or Moms whose partners can't attend please feel welcomed to join us either alone or with a friend. Nothing in the class requires partner attendance. For those who do attend we encourage sincere participation in order to tailor the class to meet your needs.
