Parenting and Relationship Workshops
Wednesday, September 17
10:00 am - 2:00 pm
please bring a sack lunch
Sorry no childcare will be offered for these classes, as 4 hours is beyond the maximum childcare limit. Quiet babies in arms welcome.
This class focuses on the primacy of connection in parenting children of all ages, and on parenting without punishments or rewards. Look deeply past difficult behaviors to discover the underlying needs of our children (and ourselves), and begin to use concrete tools to respond effectively to parenting challenges.
Our interactive class covers respectful limit setting, developmental norms, listening to feelings and many practical ideas about what to do instead of being either an authoritarian or a permissive parent.
Incorporates concepts from the work of Alfie Kohn (Unconditional Parenting), Dr. Gordon Neufeld (Hold on to Your Kids), Lawrence J. Cohen (Playful Parenting) and Marshall Rosenburg (NVC), as well as the professional and personal experience of Lyla and Emily.
“We were motivated, energized, supported and became far more positive in our approach with our 3 year old. We immediately saw some results.” Lisa
“I really loved the fact that both Lyla and Emily are *in the trenches* so to speak and the class felt very community oriented.” A.
“These are ladies who know their stuff and are clearly passionate about sharing it with others.” P.

From Couplehood to Parenthood - Navigating the Transition
Cost: $120 per couple
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
September 13, 20, and 27
It's well understood that healthy couple relationships promote better parenting. But the transition to parenthood can heighten stress and conflict between partners. Most classes available for expectant and new parents help them prepare for childbirth and the newborn period - but few offer resources to support couples' relationships once the baby comes home.
This 3-session workshop is geared for expectant and new parents (parents of children up through toddler age). We will address communication skills, conflict management, and relationship enhancement during the transition to parenthood and beyond. The workshop is didactic, skill-based, and fun. Research suggests that parents who receive this type of intervention show lasting changes in the quality of their relationship and in the way they communicate, which in turn may confer benefits for their children's cognitive and emotional development.

Are you looking for something new and fun and loving to share with yourself and your baby?
I invite you to learn the ancient arts of infant massage and yoga through respectful touch and movement interactions with your baby. Nurturing touch in the early months is vital to health and wellbeing and is an important component in brain development. You will learn methods for connecting with your baby through touch with strokes and movements for legs/feet, tummy/chest, arms/hands, back and face while respecting baby pacing and cues. You will also learn to weave baby yoga “poses” and activities into the massage interaction, which support your baby’s natural development. The yoga poses and movements are based on Itsy Bitsy Yoga®, which include unique “sing and do” methods to help baby (and parent) calm and relax.
This class setting provides a supportive environment for moms/dads/caregivers to connect with peers and allows them to slow down and hang out with baby. You will learn to keenly observe and be present with your precious child to enhance and deepen your relationship through touch and gentle movements. This relationship deepening will last a lifetime.
Some of the main benefits are:
- New ways of communicating are learned
- It is relaxing and fun for parent/caregiver and baby
- Baby sleeps better and releases daily stress
- Baby has an improved sense of his/her body in relationship to the world around himself/herself
- Supports baby’s developing digestive system and can provide relief from gastric discomfort
- Parents have greater confidence in their parenting abilities
- Group classes provide the opportunity to connect with other families and time to be in a slower paced environment
- The bond/attachment and attunement are deepened
