Why chiropractic care? As women we have unique health and wellness challenges ... As a woman Dr. Gerbi understands this. Her core focus is in helping women create balance and ease pain and injury during all phases of their lives. Maintaining women’s health through a combination of good nutrition, exercise, stress management, rest and a properly functioning muscular and nervous system is the main idea behind chiropractic care. Dr. Gerbi addresses these aspects of wellness in her practice.

Studies show up to 50% of women experience back pain during pregnancy. Many women are told that they must deal with the aches and pains of pregnancy and “tough it out” until they give birth. That’s not a fun way to spend nine months! Chiropractic care is safe and appropriate for pregnant mothers. Apart from back pain, it can help with many other discomforts commonly associated with pregnancy. These include, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, digestive issues and upper back and shoulder pain. Even women whose pregnancies are relatively complaint free can be more comfortable and benefit from chiropractic care during this time when their bodies are rapidly changing.

Chiropractic care complements traditional medicine rather than replacing it.
Dr. Gerbi takes time to listen to each woman’s concerns and answer her questions. Gentle, pregnancy specific adjustments are done on a table with special cushions for mom’s tummy and breasts. Dr. Gerbi uses the Webster technique of pelvis adjusting to help mothers maintain proper pelvic alignment and muscle balance at the end of their pregnancies. Therapeutic exercises and gentle stretches, safe for use during pregnancy, are given to help keep mothers strong, balanced, active and mobile though their nine months. After delivery, Dr. Gerbi focuses on helping mother' bodies transition back to their pre-pregnancy shape. She focuses on specific postpartum issues such as pelvic alignment, coccyx pain, and tight upper back muscles from the new postural demands of nursing. Dr. Gerbi also uses physical therapy modalities to help mothers with breastfeeding problems such as clogged milk ducts. She assists mothers in accessing resources they need to deal with issues such as fatigue, infant development, breastfeeding and the emotional changes accompanying new mother hood. Many of these resources are available under one roof at Zenana Spa and Wellness Center!

Many new mothers wonder if chiropractic and craniosacral care are right for their infants. The answer is absolutely! Even 'natural' birthing methods can stress an infant's spine and developing nervous system. The resulting irritation can cause many newborn health complaints. Colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties and sleep disturbances are often helped with gentle craniosacral work. Dr. Gerbi uses craniosacral therapy as well as very gentle chiropractic techniques when working on infants. These techniques use the same amount of pressure that one would use to check the freshness of a ripe tomato. As a child grows, chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to fit the size, weight, and unique biomechanical issues of a rapidly growing body.

Dr. Gerbi uses a “whole person” approach when taking care of her patients. She is dedicated to providing quality, patient centered care in an environment where women can comfortably find solutions to their unique health concerns. She is available for a free initial consultation. She would like to help women make an informed decision; is gentle, safe chiropractic and craniosacral therapy the right choice for them or their family? Please stop by our open house on October 5 to meet Dr. Gerbi and learn more about chiropractic and craniosacral therapy for women, mothers and infants.
